SCARS Norman/ Moore/ Noble/ Newcastle Saturday Noon Siren Net

As part of SCARS’ commitment to the Amateur Radio Emergency Service, the club conducts a siren test net on most Saturdays immediately after the City of Norman and City of Moore’s noon outdoor warning siren test. Our members are stationed at some of the 100+ outdoor weather sirens in the Norman and Moore areas and report on the actions of the operation test. This gives the City Emergency Coordinators of Norman and Moore an audible confirmation of the sirens’ successful or failed operation. The field spotters make their report on the SCARS 70cm repeater at 443.700 MHz +5 MHz, CTCSS tone 141.3 Hz required, immediately following the sirens’ sounding.

Facebook – 24 x 7 x 365

Emergency Communications Nets

During severe weather threats, Cleveland County Skywarn also uses the VHF repeater to communicate with the National Weather Service, the City of Norman emergency services, and the City of Moore emergency services.

During severe weather or other community-related emergencies, the Norman Emergency Operations Center is located in the same building where SCARS meets for monthly meetings. SCARS works closely with the City of Norman Emergency Operations Coordinator and the City of Moore Emergency Operations Coordinator on communications during these times. Oh, and both coordinators are hams, too!
