WX / Emergency

One of the reasons that the amateur radio service exists is to provide public service for the community. SCARS provides a number of ways to be involved in this activity. Over the years we’ve been of assistance in a number of local activities including tornado damage, floods, fires, train accidents, and the Murrah building bombing.

To help plan for these events we run weekly training nets, and support the statewide ARES programs. We also run a weekly Siren net to verify the operation of the outdoor warning sirens for the City of Norman. We also help to provide communications for the annual Bike MS event, and the Oklahoma City Marathon. Take a look at these events, and we would love to have you join our efforts.

To help our neighbors with weather-related activities our members that have received storm spotting training assist in the SkyWarn program, and we help the National Weather Service get our neighbors prepared as a part of the Weather Ready Nation program.

On a daily basis, we have assembled a couple of pages to keep us current on the local weather, and the solar weather. Visit these pages to learn more about the updated weather and propagation events.
