Parks On The Air (POTA)

POTA Logo

Parks on the Air (POTA) is a great way to set up your portable radios and transmit signals around the world from some great outdoor locations. The Parks on the Air website is the place to start, report your activities, and view the metrics from other POTA operators. There are two POTA locations in the Norman, OK Area.

Lake Thunderbird State Park

The first is at Lake Thunderbird, POTA number K-2792. However, most of the Lake Thunderbird is a state ‘fee’ area and you must pay a parking fee to use the facility. We have located two locations that are still fee-free.

East Sentinel Location

The first fee-free location is on the east end of the Alameda twin bridges at 9700 E Alameda St. This area is the larger of the two. It has three picnic tables with bar-be-que grills, a pavilion with tables, an outhouse, and parking for about 50 cars. It is shown here:

West Sentinel Location

The second fee-free Lake Thunderbird location is just west of the Alameda Twin Bridges at 9100 E Alameda St. It has one picnic table, an outhouse, and parking for about 20 cars. It is shown here:
